Designer's Philosophy

“These do I love: Old Things, Old Places, Remembered Times, Familiar Faces.” My design philosophy is simple: please the client by creating a space that is welcoming, gracious, and functional---a room reflecting the clients’ taste, not my own!

If the client is amenable to old pieces of furniture, I will try to incorporate antiques and/or reproductions wherever possible. I believe that antiques give today’s more modern rooms a sense of history. I love “collections,” and enjoy working with clients who like to build their collections over time. I also enjoy the challenge of creating a contemporary space in Atlanta, a predominantly “traditional” town.  Design styles come and go, but a beautiful room is a joy forever---my apologies to Keats! I enjoy colorful interiors that reflect the personality of a home’s owners, yet subdued, subtle interiors have a quiet, elegant charm of their own! My job is to create spaces that welcome families and plan for their future needs, while keeping in mind budgets and time-lines.

Good design takes time; if you’re in a hurry, there’s always “Rooms To Go.” Good design also takes careful pre-planning and careful budgeting, and I’m committed to working closely with clients to help them determine an appropriate budget for a specific project. Two of my favorite residential projects involved diverse families and differing goals; one was a contemporary Sandestin, Florida condominium, completed as a second home in 2005. The other project was a  “ground-up” construction, Charleston-inspired home located in Ellard Farms, Alpharetta, Georgia.  In 2006, sharp designs completed projects in Atlanta, Savannah, Tennessee, North Carolina, Florida, and Black Forest, Colorado.

I always interview clients prior to beginning a design project; looking over clients’  “wish files” helps me target preferred design elements to incorporate or emulate. Whether it’s a newly- constructed home, or a re-modeling project---every job requires individual, detailed attention. I work independently within my design firm, yet my clients have unlimited access to specialized carpenters, hardwood & carpet installers, an expert upholsterer, an outstanding faux painter, qualified and detailed wallpaper installers, professional interior and exterior painters, and furniture craftsmen/repairmen.  I am comfortable working with your architect, or I can refer you to one, if needed, and I have excellent references from builders with whom I have worked over the years.

The team of design experts working with me stands ready and willing to tackle one or two rooms, a second home, or your Dream Home. You may rest assured that your every need will be met and your design expectations exceeded. I look forward to hearing from you!
